The Lion’s Gate is one of the seven open gates in the wall built by the Turkish Emperor, Suliman the Great, in the mid-sixteenth century. The only gate that opens in the eastern wall of Jerusalem, it derives its name from the two lions in stone relief, on either side of the gateway.
